Mark Newton, a Fredericksburg, Virginia native, has been on the cutting edge of bluegrass for over two decades. Since his emergence on the bluegrass scene as a founding member of the legendary Virginia Squires twenty years ago, Newton has acquired a national following and critical acclaim for his innovative style and smooth vocals.
Joining the Mark Newton Band on mandolin is Clay Hess, who is also a premier flatpicking guitarist and joins Newton as backup on some songs. Banjo and guitar player, John Wheat is originally from Indiana, and has had the opportunity to play with a long list of performers including Alison Krauss, Bobby Helms, and Johnny Paycheck, among others. Bassist Beth Lawrence, originally from Wisconsin, relocated to Tennessee where she has played in several bands, including the house band for Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede.
